The Object Libraries Needed for RTMM

The Object Libraries: The "things" you see are called "objects". These are individually created little 3-D works of art. We "place" these objects into the scenery to create the locations you fly to. To see the objects correctly in our sceneries, you will have to have a specific set of objects on your computer. The objects come in "Object Libraries." You download these object libraries and place them into the FSX/Prepar3D folders (see Scenery Folder Placements section below). Then you "activate" them as you do any new scenery. When you fly to a new location, your computer draws the objects from these libraries and places them into your scenery. There are several object libraries that are needed to view the RTMM sceneries. It takes a little time to set up, but the object libraries are what makes it all "work."

The best place to start is by reading the "Getting The Object Libraries" section found just below. Some of the objects you may see in our sceneries are already placed by the "payware" products that we require from ORBX and Tongass Fjords X. A list of those products can be found in the Requirements section on our main page. RTMM's add-on sceneries are created by using some objects from object libraries that are "available" automatically from FSX/Prepar3D and from the Tongass Fjords X product. The rest of the objects used by RTMM can be obtained by downloading and installing Part I and Part II of the RTMM Required Object Libraries using the "Links to the Object Libraries You Will Need" section found below.

Once you think you have all the object libraries that are required, you can then use our Scenery Object Tester (see The Scenery Object Tester section below) that will help identify if there are any object libraries missing. Once you have all 8 object sets showing, you are ready to go anywhere in RTMM and see everything we've placed there for you. If you need help with this area, go to the forum and ask. People will be right there to help you through any problem you may encounter with RTMM scenery locations and libraries.

NOTAM on OBJECT LIBRARIES PERMISSIONS:  Any permissions required for the use of the freeware object libraries available here at RTMM have been obtained by RTMM. You can use them on your own computer, but you are not allowed, without permission, to create scenery locations with these object libraries and post them anywhere for other people’s use. Consider this a courtesy to the people who work so hard to make the great objects for us.

Getting the Object Libraries

If you already use FSX, you may already have object libraries installed like the RWY12 and/or EZ Scenery Library which contain objects we use here at RTMM. Unfortunately, many of the objects in those libraries are not visible in FSX DX10 and none of them are visible in P3Dv2.X. In order for RTMM to allow its ever growing base of FSX DX10 users and P3Dv2.X users to enjoy our wonderful sceneries along with our loyal FSX users of the past, we embarked on a major project in Spring of 2014 to revise all of our object libraries so that the included models and textures would be visible using the FSX, FSX DX10, P3Dv1.X and P3Dv2.X engines without any additional conversions being required. We created the letters, "FSXP3D", to attach to the object library names to indicate that those libraries have been tested for full visibility in all the above-named simulation engines.

Whether you are a new RTMM user or a RTMM veteran user, the first step to using the new, required "FSXP3D" capable RTMM libraries is to download Part I and Part II of the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D. You can find links to these downloads in the section further below titled "Link to the Object Libraries" the libraries you need are downloadable there. Please follow the installation instructions that are contained in the downloads very carefully to make sure you disable the specific libraries that you may already have installed. Most of those libraries will ultimately be deleted since the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D will replace them. More detailed information on the conversion process that took place can be found in any of the "Background Information links" at the top of the page. (These are also listed in the "more information" folder).

Once, you have installed the Part I, Part II and Part III of the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D, we have devised a Scenery Object Tester that will help you determine if you have all the object libraries you need or whether you may be missing one or more.

The Scenery Object Tester

Installation: See "ZIP" button and the end of this section. Use this to download the Scenery Object Tester. Install this zip files main folder and it's "scenery" subfolder where you add your addon sceneries for FSX/Prepar3D. Activate it in FSX/Prepar3D. Make sure it's at the top of your scenery library order. Start up FSX/Prepar3D and load up a flight at PANT. Go to where the two runways intersect and look for a row of objects next to each other along the edge of the runway there. You can also use "MAP" in FSX/Prepar3D and put in the following coordinates: Lat: N55 2.30, Long: W131 34.26, Altitude: 126, Heading: 112, and KIAS (speed) 0. That will position you exactly as you see in the picture below. What you see from that position should be in the picture below. If an object is missing, then look at the number for it and go on down to the table to find out which library you are missing.

You should see an object or objects above each of the numbers in the above screen capture
(Click on Picture Above to Enlarge It)

NOTAM: The date of the current RTMM Scenery Object Tester is listed at the zip button below. This tester is to be used with the updated/converted RTMM Required Object LibariesFSXP3D. If your tester does not match the date in the picture above, you need to update it by re-downloading the RTMM Scenery Object tester and overwriting the old "RTMM Scenery Test <date>" folder with the new folder in the zip you download.

  1. A cabin with a green roof and smoke. This is a default FSX/Prepar3D library object and everyone will see this object.

  2. A stucco building only found with an installation of the FSX Acceleration addon for FSX or with an installation of Prepar3D which already includes the Acceleration objects. For FSX users, Link found below in next table.

  3. A building only found with an installation of Tongass Fjords X. Link found below in next table.

  4. A stilt building only found with an installation of EZ Scenery LibraryFSXP3D from Part I of the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D. Link found below in next table.

NOTAM for those who also have OZx Sceneries installed including the OZx_LIB:

    a. RTMM no longer requires OZx Libraries but if you use them for OZx Scenery that is fine.

    b. FSX users: If you see the Land Rover and Phone/Post Booth but do not see the green shipping container, you may not have disabled a portion of the OZx_LIB as instructed in the AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D installation instructions and/or you may not have the AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D enabled in your scenery library.

    c. Prepar3D users: If you see the green shipping container but do not see the Land Rover or Phone/Post Booth you may not have disabled a portion of the OZx_LIB as instructed in the AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D installation instructions.

  8. A small gray building, an old-wood sided inn and a white two-story house with red roof only found with an installation of RTMM Object LibraryFSXP3D from Part II of the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D. Link found below in next table.

  9. "A "new" Brad's BBQ only found with an installation of RTMMTwo Object LibraryFSXP3D from Part III of the RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D. Link found below in next table
  10. Orange Smoke ... this is from the RTMM Medical Facilities TEMP Library.
  11. Crane ... this is from the Alaska Power Project TEMP library.
  12. Vertical Tank ... this from the Blue Wave Energy Partners web page.

If you're seeing what the included image shows and all buildings appear as they look in the image, then congratulations, you're all set to enjoy the Return to Misty Moorings scenery without missing any objects that the scenery developers want you to see. If you are missing any objects, then you do not have that corresponding scenery installed, or you may have it installed but it's not configured properly in your FSX/Prepar3D program scenery library order.

To eliminate any errors or missing objects, please follow the install readme instructions and make sure that all RTMM scenery library selections are above OZx (if you have that installed), ORBX and Tongass Fjords X. If you have that in order, then all of our scenery should appear as it was intended on your system. RTMM hopes this helps you with finding reasons why you may have missing objects that you come across. Once you know what you need to do, and after you make any changes by adding missing programs, come back to this scenery and then verify that the missing objects are now appearing. When you are done, you should see all of the objects in the above screen capture.

Links to the Object Libraries You Will Need

PART I

RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part 1

01.27.2015

NEW!

Attention users who already have installed Part I, II & III of the object libraries---please read this NOTAM

This is a direct link and the file you need comes to you zipped. Unzip the file, and follow the installation instructions. Part I includes installation of four major libraries: AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D, CeyX_Sceneries_LibrariesFSXP3D (date of these libraries is 07.15.2013), EZ Scenery LibraryFSXP3D and RWY12 Library FSXP3D.  It should be noted that the AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D was created to provide the objects that we  previously used from the OZx Libraries.  With this new library, we will no longer require the OZx Libraries. We use the term “AhZx” to avoid the “roll in and out” that the ORBX FTX Central program does when cycled for any library beginning with the letters “ozx”.

Note:  Be aware that this download includes three .cmd files which your Virus Scanner may flag as executables and give you a warning.

PART II

RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part II

01.07.2015

This is a direct link and the file you need comes to you zipped. Unzip the file, and follow the installation instructions. Part II includes installation of one major library: RTMM Object LibraryFSXP3D. This library now is a consolidation of several of the old libraries including Len's EZ Wilderness, RTMM Objects Library, Snow Dog Tour Objects Library, Westwood Inn Objects Library and Woody's ez rocks_boulders_snowdrifts. Since we expect to update this library with new objects and new sub libraries over time, it has been separated from Part I to minimize the size of a new download should new objects be added.

PART III

RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part III

01.07.2015

This is a direct link and the file you need comes to you zipped. Unzip the file, and follow the installation instructions. This object group includes freeware objects from Soarfly Concepts, MBC Studios, The Owl's Nest, QuebecFSX, and VF Air as well as from numerous other sources. Many of the objects contained in the WH Libraries were converted from 3D Warehouse Sketchup models for FSXP3D use by our own Steve Weinkamer. Additional WH objects were custom designed for RTMM by Steve Weinkamer. Read the installation instructions carefully as there is a "consolidation" utility that puts these together into a single library to add to your sim.

Note:  Be aware that this download includes an .exe file which your Virus Scanner may flag and give you a warning.

FSX Acceleration
(for FSX users only)
Payware This is a payware scenery. We use objects from this add-on program, so you may be missing many objects if you don't have it .
Note: Prepar3D includes these objects.

Tongass Fjords X Payware

This is a payware scenery. We use objects from this program, so you will be missing many objects if you don't have it. NOTAM: You will also need a small patch for this product to enable the ice floes and a couple of buildings (including Fed Ex) at PAWG to be seen in P3Dv2.X. This patch also improves ice floe visibility for all FSX users That patch can be downloaded here:

TFX Ice Floe & PAWG Patch 6-1-14.zip>

RTMM Medical and APP Libraries FSXP3D   Dated 1.6.17 - This Object Library COMBINES the older RTMM Med Facilities Library TEMP and the older RTMM APP Library TEMP. Both of the older libraries should be removed and replaced this this combined library for Medical and APP.
RTMM BWEP (Blue Wave Energy Partners) Library   This is a library that you will need to install if you are going to be using the BWEP (Blue Wave Energy Partners) scenery locations. It can be found on the BWEP Web Page in the INSTALL section at the top of the table.

Scenery Folders Placements and Object Library Priorities

1. Scenery Folder Placement

"Recommended*" Folder Placement

When you click on the FSX folder (#1 above) you will open the folder and find an "Addon Scenery" folder (#2). When you click on that, you will find the scenery locations and libraries you have put into FSX. We recommend all your Object Library Folders be placed in this area. We also recommend adding another folder here and name it RTMM or "Misty Moorings" (as I have above). You will see a typical list in #3 above. All of the RTMM location folders should then be placed into the "RTMM" (or Misty Moorings) folder. So when you click on the Misty Moorings or RTMM folder, you see the result in #4 above, the list of all the RTMM locations you have added. This is a good way to keep all of your RTMM locations in a single place. We make updates often to improve locations, and setting up your folders in this manner will make it very easy to update the files in the future. Keep the folders separate, do not merge them.

*RECOMMENDED - You can add these any way you like, however, this is the method we recommend.

2. Scenery Library Priority (Layers) for RTMM

Here is the "Holger Sandmann-Approved" scenery library placement settings:

Higher Priority (Toward the top of the FSX Library Screen)

  • RTMM Scenery Locations - Top Layer
  • RTMM and other Object Libraries
  • ORBX FTX block of Entries (via insertion point*)
  • Tongass X Scenery

Lower Priority (Toward the bottom of the FSX Library Screen)

  • From the graphic on the right, you will see we place the RTMM Scenery Locations (and other 3rd party scenery locations) toward the top of the scenery library.
  • Below those you will find the RTMM object libraries (and any other 3rd party libraries you might use).
  • Next, we place the ORBX FTX block of Entries (via the insertion point).*
  • Next, the Tongass X Higher Priority and Tongass X Lower Priority entries are placed below the FTX ORBX block.

*INSERTION POINT: Courtesy of ORBX, here is how you activate the insertion point that puts the ORBX FTX block in its proper place.

Trouble Shooting: If the layers are out of order, you will not correctly see what is meant for you to see. One way to check this is to look at the pic and thumbnail for the RTMM scenery location you have added. Then look at it in FSX ... if it is not there then:

  1. You have not added it,
  2. You have not activated (enabled) it,
  3. You do not have the library for it's objects and/or
  4. Your scenery library is out of order.
  5. Don't forget also, that you may be missing a scenery library ... the scenery object tester will help you with that problem.
NOTAM: Each scenery location on the RTMM SCENERY PAGE will tell you what 3rd party program is required for it to work correctly. If you do not have one or more of them, then do not download scenery that requires them. Only download those locations that work with the required scenery you have.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

1 What libraries do the new RTMM Part 1 and Part II replace?

Answer: The RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part I & II replace the following libraries:

  • CeyX_Sceneries_Libraries
  • EZ Scenery Library
  • FinneyAir_FSX_Strobe_Collection
  • Lens_EZ_Wilderness
  • RTMM Object Library
  • Rwy12 Library
  • SDTV2_Object_Library
  • Westwood Inn Objects
  • woody's EZ_rocks_Boulders_snowdrifts
  • woody's EZ_SIRP_stuff

The new libraries also add some revised/improved animations  (e.g. campfire animation now has real-life smoke effects) as well as some additional object libraries:

  • woody_s_ez_hangers_green
  • woody's EZ_Waterfalls
  • Woody's_EZ_airport signs
  • Woodys-EZ_Hangars_Blue
  • FedEx Trucks

2 How much do I have to download to replace all those libraries?

  • Answer: Only two zip files to download: RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part I and RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D Part II (see Links to Object Libraries)

3 Is there an "order" for the new object libraries?

  • Answer: There is no order to the new object libraries. They can even be above the RTMM Sceneries…doesn’t matter.

4 Concerning updating an OZx library. Using the cmd to "disable" the objects in OZx so the converted objects will show, what would be the procedure for updating an OZx library?

  • Answer: We would recommend that a user always return the OZx_LIB back to normal using the disable before updating the OZx_LIB….of course if OZx does a new update to their libraries, we would have to inspect it to see if they changed any file names to make sure the disable utility would still work.

Background Information - RTMM Required Object LibrariesFSXP3D

June 17, 2014

Overview

As part of an overall initiative to be able to support P3Dv2, which began in early February 2014, Return To Misty Moorings (RTMM) has converted hundreds of its required object libraries full of FS9 objects to FSX objects . Many of these FS9 objects were designed for a product made over 10 years ago. RTMM will be using these converted FS9 libraries plus the rest of their required FSX libraries to support 3 versions of flight simulation object rendering (FSX, FSX DX10, P3Dv2) as we move into the near future. We have prefixed all the converted libraries with "FSXP3D" to indicate their readiness to function in all three rendering environments mentioned above. FS9 objects were converted to be FSX objects because FSX DX10 and P3Dv2 either have trouble displaying FS9 objects properly or, in the case of P3D, will not display FS9 objects at all. This conversion was done to ensure that our RTMM scenery developers continue to have access to thousands of objects for future scenery development as well as to preserve over 160 RTMM scenery areas and enhancement packages of freeware for our users, whether on a FSX, FSX DX10 or P3Dv2 platform.

Conversion of the FS9 libraries (thousands of objects) was very effective achieving almost a 99% success rate. Most of the issues centered around FS9 conditional animations and object illumination. Less than 1% of the objects were not able to be converted and may be missing in P3Dv2 or not work for any of our users as they did before conversion especially in the area of nighttime illumination.

These "conversion anomalies" are isolated. In most cases, the models converted correctly. The RTMM scenery developers will be updating the RTMM scenery areas as necessary to fix any significant display issues as a result of the fairly small number of "anomalies" that have occurred. Adjustments will also have to be made in some of the installation notes as non-RTMM libraries cannot be suggested as installation options if those outside libraries are not FSXP3D ready.

Parts or all of several of the FS9 libraries would not convert properly. If they supported OZx sceneries , I have retained those libraries in unconverted form with an FS9 prefix designation so FSX (including DX10) users of OZx sceneries can continue to see the objects displayed by them. This means that P3Dv2 users won't see these objects but their existence in RTMM sceneries is quite rare. These libraries will not carry a FSXP3D prefix, so our developers will not use any of these objects for future sceneries.

Most animated models were converted successfully other than conditional animation. Conditional animation (e.g., hangar doors opening with a Nav radio selection or gates opening due to proximity) was supported in FS9 but support was removed in FSX. As a result any FS9 objects that had this feature will not work when converted to FSX so they have been eliminated from the libraries. These conditionally animated objects will have to be replaced by our scenery developers in our existing sceneries.

A couple of lights libraries lost their ability to produce ground light wash and one key effects library did not convert at all. For that library, I built a new RTMM Effects library to reproduce some of the key effects from the previous library and added a few new ones.

A few FS9 objects converted but had black background squares. Those objects were removed and will not show up in FSX, FS DX10 or P3D.

A couple of libraries had FSX and FS9 objects mixed together. For the most part, I exported the FS9 objects, converted them and then rebuilt the library as an all FSX library. It was important to avoid converting any existing FSX objects since they already worked fine and might gain undesirable characteristics if converted.

User Experience during transition period and into future

RTMM believes that most of the RTMM users in the next year or two will be using FSX DX10 or P3D. Some users will stay behind on FSX without DX10. The users that will notice a few object problems, while we make this transition, are the FSX users without DX10. Right now all of the RTMM sceneries completely work for them. During the transition period, after they switch to the newly converted RTMM Required Libraries, the users will have to be patient as a few of the objects in some of RTMM's scenes will be a bit problematic until the RTMM Scenery Developers can adjust the sceneries.

RTMM will be providing post-library conversion scenery quality control by putting aFSX/DX10/P3D logo to the right of each scenery location that already works with the newly converted libraries.  In addition, you will also see a red light or a green light there.  The RTMM scenery developers are making a final pass through all of the scenery locations, making sure all of the objects are viable in each location (we had checked them in the libraries, but now we are looking at them in their actual position).  As the scenery developers work their way through the many locations on the scenery page, you will start seeing the red lights turn green. Though our scenery locations are already working fine with the newly converted libraries,  this is our own way of making sure that every object is reviewed to make sure that it looks as the author intended including eliminating any minor anomalies as a result of the conversion.   At the same time, a developer may decided to enhance the scenery a little bit as they work through it.   As we look at each location, we are also looking at the folder and file structure on the server making sure it is error-free. Keep an eye open for postings in the forum as each scenery is validated/updated and the light turns from red to green.

With the new converted libraries, the FSX DX10 users will be able to use the object libraries without having to convert textures so this is a big win for them. The P3D users currently can't see a lot of the objects at all so they will appreciate the change to the converted libraries where 99% of the objects that they are supposed to see will be visible and any minor problems that may exist will soon be fixed as referenced in the previous paragraph.

The good news for users on all platforms is that, once converted, the old FS9 objects work more efficiently than they did before. The FSX and P3D scenery engine is optimized for FSX objects such that drawing an FSX object is easier and more efficient than drawing a FS9 object. The MCX converter cleans up the old FS9 coding in a Model to also help enable this increase in efficiency. The result for a user may be better frame rates or faster rendering for generally better performance.

Summary

There are a number of issues to address when doing this type of conversion but, as a team, RTMM was up to the task. The most exciting news, is that we will have almost all of our favorite objects available for future scenery development. And, of course, we plan to develop even more objects (FSX/P3Dv2 ) as we move into the future . There is no doubt that Return To Misty Moorings will be a great place to spend your free "simming" time in the years ahead.

Background Information - RTMM Object LibraryFSXP3D
RTMM Object LibraryFSXP3D Content Information Version 6-1-2014

This package contains object libraries to be used with Microsoft Flight Simulator X in Return To Misty Moorings scenery files. The FS9 library models have been converted to be FSX compliant and the textures have been converted to be DirectDraw Surface (.dds) with the original author's permission. The conversion success rate was 100% with some objects being improved by added textures supplied by the developers. The prefix of FSXP3D attached to the library names inside the actual Scenery folder simply indicates that RTMM has tested these libraries to verify that they display in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D except as noted in the Textures issues section below. The prefix also makes it easier for scenery developers to find a library that is FSXP3D compatible.

Short Library Descriptions as available

FinneyAir_FSX_Strobes - (Readme from Gary Mills)

This Finney Air FSX Strobe Collection for Instant Scenery is a follow-up to the FSX Platforms Kit which allows users to make Finney Air FS9 helicopter scenery object collections functional in FSX.

There were some ChopperWorld strobe sets, and several towers from the ChopperWorld kit which did not feature night lighting textures, only strobe sets which like the landable platforms, were non-functional in FSX.

To repair the majority of these pads and towers with non-functioning strobes in FSX, this set includes 10m and 12m square sets which feature strobe effects-only, no strobe fixtures.

These sets can be placed over the existing strobe fixtures, and if necessary, can be re-sized/rotated to fit the existing fixtures by using the scale/heading functions in the Instant Scenery object properties interface.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

*There is also a special 10m effects-only strobe set which is attached to an invisible landable platform specifically designed for the mountain and offshore towers with see-thru metal grating landing pads under which the semi-invisible platforms show-up, and both of which had the existing strobe fixtures.

To make it possible to place the "invisible" landable platform, I added a fifth strobe in the center that consists of only the top section of the strobe fixture, and is placed at the surface of the landable platform.

When the center strobe is sitting directly on top of the landing pad of the tower, the attached invisible platform should be at the correct altitude.

Once the correct altitude for the invisible platform has been established, the set of strobes can be scaled/rotated as necessary, just be careful not to inadvertantly change the altitude.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The remainder of the FSX Strobe Collection consists of:

  • 8m, 12m and 15m strobe rings (8 lights each)
  • 4m, 8m, 12m, and 15m squares (4 lights each)
  • 4m, 8m, 12m, and 15m triangles (3 lights each)
  • A single strobe

The strobes which make up each set should flash at the same time, however placing more than one set, and/or the single strobe will likely have the result of the individual sets being out of sync with each other, though with practice you may be able to get them close enough for government work.

It does look interesting to place a large set with a smaller set inside which is flashing at a different rate.

One other thing is that since the bottom of the strobe effect box is attached to the white spherical "lightbulbs" at the tops of the strobe fixtures, the sets which feature the complete strobe fixtures can be raised or lowered in the Instant Scenery properties interface in order to show more or less of the fixture , and the strobe effect will not be affected by lowering the fixtures down to that point.

Between the Finney Air FSX Platforms Kit, and the Finney Air FSX Strobe Collection, the various Finney Air Rwy12 and EZ Scenery helicopter scenery object collections should now be about 99% functional in FSX.

Cheers, and happy landings

FSXP3D RTMM Special Effects

Created new FSXP3D RTMM Special Effects library from scratch that includes a couple of Ron's effects, and some new effects to which we can add others as needed in the future. This library was created by Rod Jackson to help ron_ez_effects.bgl from EZ Scenery. The entire ron_ez_effects.bgl would not convert to FSX so that it could be used in P3Dv2. The bonfire effect directly replace Ron's small fire effect so no need to remove the previous object placement of "small fire" since it has the same GUID. In addition, Rod added a few more effects/objects to play with.

Snow Dog Tours Object Library (SDV2_Object_Library)

Snow Dog Tours Object Library

Converted “Version 2.0”

FSX Scenery Object Library for use with Return To Misty Moorings scenery addons. This library is now FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D ready. There are a few missing texures which are documented in the Scenery Developer Notes folder.

This object library was initially created for the Snow Dog Tours Scenery by Chris “MoCat” Carel. However, since that scenery is incompatible with ORBX Pacific Fjords, Return To Misty Moorings has received permission from Chris "MoCat" Carel to extract the Snow Dog Tours Object Library and use it as a resource for Return To Misty Mooring scenery addons.

Woody's ez_sirp_stuff

This is a file for the project Stikine Icefields research project (SIRP) That the Amigo''s design team is working on. It has a lot of stuff in it. quonsets huts snowmobiles and a windsock (the windsock was made over at ( http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/index.php ) and was made by JDBerg. Arno explains the way to install the windsock is this way.

(The problem you mention with the objects not responding is also a common one. Objects that interact with the wind only work if you have placed at least two of them on your screen. And those two objects must not be at exactly the same location. So you might want to add another windsock somewhere else (maybe hidden in a building or so). so use the windsock at your own risk.

The files that have a "tweaked" in them will rotate to the user. just remember when you place them that they are set to north or 0 degrees.

For most objects, there should be little or no impact to the quality of the object display. However, in a few cases, the object had a black background left from converting FS9 objects to FSX and, in those cases, the object was removed from the scenery file as noted.)

Background Information - RWY12 LibraryFSXP3D
6-1-14

RWY12 LibraryFSXP3D*

Almost 100% of the RWY12 objects were successfully converted to display in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D. Reasons why a few objects and some libraries were not converted:

Several libraries were empty of objects or all objects in the library were missing most or all textures. These Libraries are:
  • ExtraObjects_demo.bgl
  • ExtraObjects_demo_A16N.bgl
  • ExtraObjects_demo_FS9.BGL

In some cases, the library that was converted had objects removed that are not compatible with native FSX objects e.g. conditional animation such as hangar doors that open by tuning to a NAV frequency or that open by proximity (Conditional Animation is not supported by FSX). Also, in some cases, lights generated by imbedded FS9 object code were not able to be converted easily.

All of the converted libraries now have a prefix of FSXP3D to uniquely identify their compatibility level and to make them easy to find in Instant Scenery. Please note that if there were missing textures etc. in the original libraries, then the converted libraries will be missing the same textures.

*FSXP3D has been appended to the library set name to indicate that these libraries have been converted by RTMM to make all of the models FSX compliant and all of the textures DX10 compliant. This means that these libraries will now display in P3D as well as FSX and FSX DX10. Thanks to Steve Weinkamer for his help in this conversion effort.

Any groups that wish to use the converted form of the libraries herein, must first obtain written permission from RTMM. Such "group" permission is most usually granted because we encourage partnership and sharing. You can expect us to ask for a reciprocal agreement in such cases.

Background Information - EZ Scenery Library FSXP3D
6-1-14

EZ Scenery LibraryFSXP3D*

Almost 100% of the EZ Scenery objects were successfully converted to work in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D. Reasons why a few objects and some libraries were not converted:

  1. Several libraries were empty of objects or all objects in the library were missing most or all textures.

  1. A couple of libraries were unable to be easily converted because of native FS9 coding that the converter would not process

  1. In some cases, the library that was converted had objects removed that are not compatible with native FSX objects e.g. conditional animation such as hangar doors that open by tuning to a NAV frequency or gates that open by proximity (Conditional Animation is not supported by FSX). Some animated objects had a black background (FS9 anomaly).

  1. Light effects were a big problem and did not convert correctly in most cases. Light wash generated by embedded FS9 object code was not able to be converted. After conversion, the light globe still has a lit night texture but no light wash is produced on the ground. The lights_ss_1 library is an example of this.

A few EZ Scenery objects were preserved by removing the animation which was pretty incidental to the look of the overall object. In one case, the animated campfire object located in the ron_ez_outdoorz library would not convert properly. Unfortunately, this campfire object is used many, many times in RTMM scenery. So some significant time was spent on that one object to create an attached custom effect that would both cover the non working animation part and generate a more modern looking, burning campfire effect.

If you need additional understanding of the EZ Scenery objects that did not convert successfully, they can be identified by doing a comparison between the object lists (.txt files) contained in the original EZ Scenery File distribution (available at flightsim.com) and the matching .txt files in the EZ Scenery LibraryFSXP3D Scenery folder. Please note that if there were missing textures etc. in the original libraries, then the converted libraries will be missing the same textures.

In addition, the original EZ Scenery file distribution needs to be referenced if you wish to see the readme.txt files that accompanied several of the libraries. There were removed from this distribution since they referenced things that worked in FS9 but not in FSX as well as installation instructions that no longer apply.

The following list of Woody's libraries contained in the EZ Scenery Library have been checked for missing textures since we were able to reach the author of the objects, and, with a few missing textures supplied by the author, these libraries have been fully converted and contain no missing textures.

  • woody dock stuff.bgl
  • woody's ez_boulders.bgl
  • woody's ez_lady's & gents.bgl
  • woody's ez_mountain men.bgl

++ This file contains 4 objects which are duplicates of 4 objects in woody's pier sections.bgl. However, since they have different GUID numbers, this (partial) duplicate library will be converted and kept alive for continuity in case an scenery developers in the past have used these duplicate objects.

The following section lists the few textures that are still missing from Woody's Scenery Libraries contained in the EZ Scenery Library.

Background Information – AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D

Scenery Developer Information for the AhZx_LIB SUB LibraryFSXP3D 6-1-14

At this time OZx has not published any plans to convert their OZx_LIB folder to work properly with FSX DX10 or P3D. Since RTMM has used (with permission) objects from the mwl, kh and UKVFR libraries (part of OZx) in RTMMM sceneries, we have converted these libraries (with authors 'permissions) to work in FSX, DX10 and P3D. The textures have been converted to be DirectDraw Surface (.dds) with the original author's permission to ensure FSX DX10 compatibility. About 98% or more of all of the objects were converted successfully. We have named this group of converted objects the AhZx_LIB_Substitution Object Library or AhZx_LIB_SUB LibraryFSXP3D for short with FSXP3D meaing that the library is compatible with FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D users.

All mwl and kh libraries converted succesfully and are prefixed with FSXP3D except 1 two object Windsock library. Scenery developers may want to reference the kh & mwl missing textures document located in the Scenery Developement Information folder that identifies display issues that existed with the original set of objects and still exist with the converted set of objects.

There were a few UKVFR objects/libraries that did not convert properly. None of the objects were converted in the following UKVFR library listed below, but in order to maximize object visibility for FSX users, the libraries were retained with a FS9 appended to them. Future RTMM sceneries will not use any objects from libraries appended with FS9. It is possible these libraries will be able to be converted in future if there are further updates to the current existing conversion tools. Again the objects in these libraries will display for FSX users but not P3D users.

ukvfrstreetlightingFS9.bgl

The following UKVFR libraries were split into converted (will have a prefix of FSXP3D) and not converted correctly (will have FS9 appended to file) in order to maximize object visibility for FSX users. Future RTMM sceneries will not use any objects from libraries appended with FS9. There are only 11 objects in the FS9 versions of the split libraries. In summary, objects in these libraries that have a prefix of FSXP3D will display for all users but if they have FS9 appended to them then only FSX users will see the objects.

  • ukvfrspecials.bgl
  • ukvfrlandmarks.bgl
  • ukvfrstreetfurniture.bgl

In addition, the FSXP3Dukvfrvegetation.bgl is missing the PineForest object but there was no "FS9" library created for it since this library is not used in OZx. Also, FSXP3D ukvfrwatertransport.bgl is missing the standalone beacon (red) and beacongreen objects. Though it is unlikely, if OZx sceneries have placed those objects in a stand alone manner....they will not work. A more common use of the two aforementioned objects was to light up the 5 objects: greenboy, greenboy2, redboy, redboy2 and groyne2. As part of the conversion process, we have modified the 5 objects with effect attachpoints pointing to the appropriate effects file to create the buoy blinking light. The four buoy objects now have "FSX" appended to their object names but the groyne2 object name is not changed. These objects will work properly in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D as long as two required effects files, contained in the Effects folder included with this release are copied to the FSX orP3D\Effects folder with overwrite if necessary.

RTMM will only build scenery using converted objects or native FSX objects (visible in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D) as we move forward. The FSXP3D prefix attached to the mwl, kh and UKVFR library names simply indicates that RTMM has tested these libraries to verify that they work properly in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D except as noted above.

The few UKVFR objects that might have been removed for lack of textures or some other reason, can be identified by doing a comparison of the object lists (.txt files) contained in the folder named "Original UKVFR Object Lists" with the matching FSXP3Dukvfrxxxxxxx.txt and ukvfrxxxxxxFS9.txt files located in the Scenery folder.

It should be noted that if any ukvfr libraries had missing textures or bad objects before the conversion, those converted libraries also have the same missing textures or bad objects

OZx users note: Read the install readme.txt carefully since the mwl, kh, UKVFR & a few other libraries (listed in the install readme.txt) embedded in OZxLIB have to be set to "off" before this converted library set is enabled in FSX or P3D. It should also be noted that the icr_FSX_LIB2.bgl in OZx_LIB contains some models from UKVFR Walls & Fences but those models have been converted to be FSX compliant so they can coexist with the converted UKVFR libraries.

General Notes

The prefix of FSXP3D has been added to indicate that these libraries have been converted by RTMM to make all of the models FSX compliant and all of the textures DirectDraw Surface (.dds) which DX10 likes. This means that these libraries will now display in P3D as well as FSX and FSX DX10. Thanks to Ken Halll (author of the kh libraries) and Mark Lee (author of the mwl libraries) for allowing the conversion of these wonderful libraries. In addition, thanks to Steve Weinkamer for his help in testing and compiling these lists.

Any groups that wish to use the converted form of these libraries herein, must first obtain written permission from RTMM. Such "group" permission is most usually granted because we encourage partnership and sharing. You can expect us to ask for a reciprocal agreement in such cases.

Background Information - CeyX_Sceneries_LibrariesFSXP3D

CeyX_Sceneries_LibrariesFSXP3D June 7, 2014

These libraries were already developed under FSX by the original author, Xavier Carré. The appended FSXP3D to the library name simply indicates that RTMM has tested these libraries to verify that they work properly in FSX, FSX DX10 and P3D.

For Scenery Developers: The libraries in this object library do not start with the prefix FSXP3D because RTMM developers do not have permission to develop new sceneries with these objects. These libraries are only required to view older RTMM sceneries that used these objects in the past

Special thanks to Xavier Carré for developing this great set of objects.

Tongass X Migration to Prepar3D

Procedure for Migration of Tongass X to Prepar3D

(Updated 09.25.2015 by Rod Jackson)

Tongass X is one of our highly recommended addons you will need for RTMM scenery locations. You can purchase this by clicking on the logo at the right.

1. Purchase the Migration Tool

2. With all flight simulators OFF

  • (For P3Dv2.5 only: Make a backup copy of terrain.cfg [located in your c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder] and then move the terrain.cfg file from your c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder to your main Preapr3dv2.5 folder)

  • Run the Migration Tool Installation and open it

3. On the “Welcome to Migration Tool” box, put in the install locations for FSX and P3D v1 or v2

  • Click on Proceed … the tool creates backups … this can take some time, be patient.

4. Next the box will ask you if you want to ENABLE or DISABLE the tool.

5. To install Tongass X, you want to ENABLE the tool.

6. Now Install Tongass X pointing it at your P3D folder (where Prepar3D is stored).

7. When Tongass X is finished installing, the Migration Tool box will still be on the screen.

NOTAM!!! At this point press the DISABLE button.

8. (For Prepar3Dv2.5 only: Move terrain.cfg from Preapr3dv2.5 folder to c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder)

9. Now start P3D and add the Higher and Lower Priority Tongass X scenery entries

Note: If you find that you have vegetation and no water in Tongass scenery area, you may have done something wrong with the terrain.cfg. If so, the terrain.cfg can be rebuilt manually using the information and files found in the RTMM FAQ section under Terrain Problem - Trees in Water - Tongass X

NOTAM: The Migration Tool, when ENABLED is putting a “virtual FSX” into P3D. So when you go to install Tongass X into P3D, the program is “tricked” into thinking it is installing it into a normal FSX folder. That is why, once Tongass X is installed, you DISABLE the tool, (taking the virtual FSX out of P3D).

NOTAM2: You will find two new scenery libraries, Tongass Higher Priority and Tongass Lower Priority. Make sure you move them “down” in your scenery list to the lower area (below ORBX Airports and Regions) where you keep your scenery object libraries. When you move them, make sure HIGHER is above LOWER.

NOTAM-1 Old Readme Files on Installation of NON-FSXP3D Object Libraries

NOTAM from Scenery Page - Many of our scenery installation readme documents mention the old object libraries. If you are using the older scenery object libraries (Not FSXP3D), then those instructions are accurate. However if you are using the new replacement Object Libraries (FSXP3D), then those instructions are NOT correct, simply disregard them. If you are using the FSXP3D object libraries, you do not have to install any other libraries and you should disregard installation instructions for "other' object libraries.

As we come through our Quality Control (QC) process, we are checking that everything works on every location and we are changing out the Readme files with a "ReadMeFirst" file. When you see a "green light" on the Logo, you will know the instructions are correctl (If it is not yet corrected, the light will be red.)
