Dispatch Overview

This dispatch will familiarize you with most of the airports and airstrips in the Kenai area. This is a great way to get familiar with the municipal and suburb areas of Kenai. The terrain is mostly level and you will see many small communities along the way. Because of the flat terrain, you can easily fly at 800 feet. This is recommended because you will be landing often as some of the airports are only a mile apart.

Method 1: We start at the Kenai Airport, (PAEN). We will fly to each of the airports in the order of the table below. In the table you will find the runway heading of the target airport, the target airport's heading and distance in miles. The flight ends at the Misty Moorings Ops Center.

Starting Airport - PAEN (Kenai Municipal)

Method 2: A second method for going to and finding the airports in the Kenai area can be done using the following table. You can pick out an airport, set 117.6 Mhz on the Nav radio and find the Mag heading from the ENA VOR and use the DME for distance in miles or km (m-km). This is a more challenging way to find the airports and will give you different routes. You can also start at one airport, and go to another without following a route.

• Set Nav Frequency on 117.6
• Look at the radial on the table below for the target
• Set the direction finder for that magnetic heading*
• Choose a heading that intercepts the radial. If you are intercepting the radial between the VOR and the target, use the "FROM" magnetic heading for the direction finder. If you are intercepting the radial so the airport is between you and the VOR, then put in the reciprocal.*
• Turn on "NAV" for autopilot
• Or Fly "to the needle" for manual flight
  • Choose a heading that will intercept the radial
• Watch the DME, the distance will match the table for the target airport.
• As you approach, look at the runway heading and set up your approach accordingly.

*NOTAM: To calculate the reciprocal. If the heading is >180, subtract 180. If the heading is <180 add 180.

(Example: Reciprocal for 182 ... 182-180=002,
or the reciprocal of 174 is 174+180=354)
